In 1984, the Japanese film company, Toho Co., Ltd. launched the second series of Godzilla films. Toho wished to bring back the original feel of the old Godzilla films before they became “kid friendly”. All the films of this series take place within the same timeline with the 1984 film being a direct sequel to the original Gojira. Below, you will find a catalog of all the Heisei Series Godzilla films, from 1984 to 1995. I have also included links to where you can buy these amazing films.
The Return of Godzilla (Godzilla 1985)
Unfortunately, this still is not currently available in the US. You can still find some used copies of the VHS on Amazon, but we are still awaiting a DVD (and hopefully bly ray) release. 1984 (Lakeshore Entertainment)
Godzilla vs. Biollante 1989
We are in luck! This film had been owned by Mirimax Films and was not released in the US. However, Echo Bridge Home Entertainment now has the rights to release this in the US. This great film is now available in the US both on Blu Ray and DVD.
Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah 1991
Godzilla vs. Mothra (Godzilla & Mothra: The Battle for Earth) 1992
Both of these films are available in the US in a single DVD as a “double feature” film. According to reviews on Amazon, this DVD does not contain the original Japanese versions. Also, this DVD does not contain the original widescreen Tohoscope version.
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II 1993
This awesome film is available on DVD, luckily as a “single feature”. This is a must-have for any Godzilla fan.
Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla 1994
Godzilla vs. Destoroyah 1995
These epic films are the last of the Heisei series. Both films are available in the US in a single DVD as a “double feature” film. According to reviews on Amazon, this DVD does not contain the original Japanese versions.
